Landscapes
My process for creating landscape paintings is quite different to portraits. I often don’t use a reference image but instead just select a palette of colours I like and then start painting and see where the evening takes me. Sometimes images emerge out of the blue and out of the paint, such as “Ice Shack” below. This kind of painting, ‘painting without a plan’, is like freeform writing and helps clear the heart and mind. It’s when I feel the most free as an artist because there is no editing of thoughts, emotions or the creative process.
